Setting up Plot Files
AutoCad 14 Users:
1. First...Configure the HP750C Printer Driver within Autocad 14 to create
the proper printer in which to plot to.
 | Open AutoCad 14, select "Printer Setup" from the
"File" menu to display the "Preferences" Window. |
 | Select the "Printers" tab from the "Preferences"
window and select "New" and choose the file "Hewlett
Packard HPGL/2 Devices - ADI 4.3 - for AutoDesk" and submit
"OK". |
 | "Autocad Txt Window" will appear , select the HP750C
driver and enter "OK". |
 | A configure port setting selection will appear next, select the default
"LPT1" and press enter until you return to the
"Preferences" window again. |
 | The HP750C driver wil be displayed in the "Preferences" window,
highlight it and enter "OK". |
2. Next...Prepare the Plot Files for submission.
 | Type "Plot" within the command line, a "Print/Plot
Configuration" box will display. |
 | The "HP Designjet 750C" printer should be seen in the
"Device and Default Selection" area of the box. If not, select it
by clicking the "Device and Default Selection" button. |
 | From the "Paper Size and Orientation" box , select the proper
size and orientation of your sheet. For instance a 24x36 sheet should be set
up as 36" width and 24" height for efficient use of paper. |

 | The "Scale, Rotation, and Origin" need to be set. A 0 degree
rotation and the origin set to 0,0 will be the most common settings
depending upon how you set up your drawing. You can adjust these settings
based upon what you view in the "Full Preview". The scale should
be chosen as to how the drawing was set up and verified by a "Full
Preview". |
 | The "Pen Assignments" will determine the how the lines will be
printed in thickness and linetype. Choosing Pen#7 will print all colors in
Black. (For Grayscales, we suggest that you use Pen #8 and Pen #40 with a
30% shading within the "HPconfig" box that is accessed from the
command line by typing "HPconfig". Pen #8 will be slightly lighter
than Pen #40 when you use "In Color". Keep in mind that here is
also where you can select your prints to be in color, colors as gray, or all
in black.) |
 | Finally, select the image you wish to plot by either "Windowing"
the image, choosing "Extents", or "Display". These
selections can be repositioned on your preselected sheet with the
"Rotation and Origin" button. Use the "Full Preview" to
verify that the image will be placed correctly on your sheet. |
 | Check off the "Plot to File" box and enter "OK".
This will give you a directory selection in which the plot file will be
located. Send the Plot File (.plt) to us by e-mail or disk and the prints
will be delivered back. |
Autocad 2004 Users:
1. First...Configure the HP750C Printer Driver within Autocad 2004 to create
the proper printer in which to plot to.
 | This is actually easier than Autocad 14 as it uses a "Wizard".
Select "Plotter Manager" from the File Menu and choose the
"Wizard". Follow the instructions and you can easily setup the
proper Printer with the 2004 ADI Drivers that are necessary to make this
work right. |
 | At "Add Plotter-PCP", don't import any pcp, just enter
"Next". |
 | At "Add Plotter-Ports", select "plot to file" and
enter "Next". |
 | At "Add Plotter-Plotter Name", identify the plotter as "Trico
Printer" and enter "Next". |
 | At "Add Plotter-Finisher", enter "Next" and a printer
driver compatible to our printers should be loaded, ready to go. You should
verify this by selecting "Plot" under the file menu and the "Trico
Printer" should be one of the choices under the "Plot Device"
tab. |
2. Next...Prepare the Plot Files for submission.
 | Type "Plot" within the command line, a "Plot" box will
display. |
 | From the "Plot Device" tab, choose the "Trico printer"
or HP750C device you set up in the above steps. Also, under the "Plot
Styles(Pen Assignments)" choose the ctb file that you have developed to
create the proper colors and linetypes. Using "Monochrome.ctb"
will ensure that all lines are black with object-embedded lineweights and
probably no grayscales, if you haven't edited the file. |
 | Finally, check the "Plot to File" box and browse to where you
desire to locate the plot file. |

 | From the "Plot Settings" tab, choose the desired paper size and
scale of the drawing. |
 | Under the "Plot Area", you can select extents or window the area
desired for plotting. Check the placement of the image by doing a Full
Preview. The image can be adjusted by centering the image and adjusting the
X:Y coordinates. Return to the "Plot" window by pressing
"Escape". |
 | If everything looks right, enter, "OK" and the plot file will be
made. |
Minicad and Vectorworks Users:
1. First...Configure the HP750C Printer Driver within Windows to create
the proper printer in which to plot to.
 | Vectorworks and Minicad, along with most other programs use the Standard
Window Drivers that come with printers. These drivers can be downloaded
directly to your computer from the developers' Web Site. The HP750C driver
works well in most cases. You can download this driver from HP.com
, it is identified as "pl121en.exe" for Windows 95,98, and
2000. Executing this file will set up the 750C driver in your Windows Folder
for access through most of your printing programs. You should see the 750C
printer as a selection in Vectorworks or Minicad when you select the
"Print Setup" under your "File" menu. |
2. Next...Prepare the Plot Files for submission.
 | Check the size of your page under the "Page Menu". From here you
can select the desired page size of your drawing. Vectorworks and Minicad
have an odd way of trimming the image due to margins. So...for those
drawings that are 24"x 36", select 35.5" to compensate for a
roll width of 36" on the plotter. You can leave the 24"
height alone. |
 | Next, go to "Print Setup" under the "File Menu" and
select the HP750C printer. Click the "Properties" button to make
the proper adjustments. |
 |
Choose Landscape for 24 x 36 and click to "More
Sizes" to adjust for size. This time adjust the width to 36" but
change the height to 25.5". I know it sounds crazy, but it works. You
can verify this by referring back to the "Page Setup" under the
Page Menu. |
 | Finally, go to the "Layout View" tab and select
"Preview". This preview will show up after you initiate the print
command. Also, go to the "Option" tab and choose
"Automatic" for the color option. This will work most of the time
for Monochrome prints. Color should be handled either through the
"Manual Color" option or through "Color as Grayscale"
option if you prefer monochrome prints. |
3. Ready to Go...Let's Print.
 | Go to the "Print" option under the "File Menu" and the
"Print" display will show. |

 |
At the "Print" display, check the "Print to
File" box and number of copies as "1". After clicking
"OK", the browse window will allow you to select what to name the
file and where to place it. Afterwards, the "Print Preview" will
form and then it will give you the option to print if everything looks OK.
